My name is Anthony Johnson, and my friends, Clay Krueger and Rick Holland, are working on building a Deerfield Disc Golf Course at the Community Park for our Senior Step It Up project.
It is a two-yearlong project and that began when I wrote to the Deerfield Village for a Trust Fund Grant.
Through the Trust Fund Grant we received $2,000. We have attended board meetings to further our plans and we decided to write for a 50/50 matching grant through Dane County.
We have yet to hear back about how much or whether we will or won’t receive the grant.
We are working on applying for other grants, such as a grant from the Professional Disc Golf Association which has helped fund courses in Cambridge and Marshall.
The course costs $14,000 for the tee pads, disc baskets, forest clearing, and installation. This is a big task, but we have many methods for raising money.
We have already hosted a brunch and our next step is to have a booth at the Firemen’s Festival.
At the festival we plan to have a disc golf putting contest and opportunities to purchase bricks.
To raise a majority of our money we are selling bricks for $35. The bricks are 8x4 inches and can have one to three lines of engraving.
The bricks will be sunk into the tee pad and will line the outside.
For $250, businesses can sponsor a hole, meaning that their name and logo will be on a sign next to the hole map. Other fundraising plans are to have a cookout at the Community Park during the summer. Watch for updates as we will keep you posted.
Those interested in volunteering equipment and time or who want to purchase a brick, can contact Anthony Johnson at (608) 886-4828.
Every bit of assistance helps, and we will gladly accept tips on building and ideas.
Feel free to call to find out more information, and consider buying a brick as you can make a positive impact on the community.
