High school sophomores, juniors and seniors are encouraged to participate in the statewide American Legion Americanism and Government Scholarship Program.

Annually 33 Wisconsin students are awarded scholarships selected by the state’s Americanism Committee of the American Legion. Eleven sophomores receive $250 scholarships, 11 juniors win $300 scholarships and 11 seniors receive $750 scholarships through the program.

Eligible students are tested on their knowledge of United States, Wisconsin and county governments, the U.S. Constitution and flag etiquette. The test consists of 50 questions — a mix of true or false, multiple choice and matching answers — and an essay question. Students are not allowed to use outside resources for answers while completing the test and must complete it within one hour.

The test is available online between April 1-12. More information, as well as the test link, can be found at www.wilegion.org

Any Wisconsin student in grades 10, 11 and 12 enrolled in any public, private or parochial school, or home-schooled, may participate. Students may only take the test one time per year, however they may complete it each year they are eligible.

For more information about the test and scholarships, contact Sheri at sheri@wilegion.org or call (608) 745-1090.
