The bright red letters on the front of 300 E. Holum Street herald the arrival of a new restaurant in DeForest.

BB Jacks, a family lunch and dinner restaurant, is set to open before Christmas, General Manager Lowell Ternes said.

“We are very close to being ready,” he said.

With a total renovation of the former Swan’s Bar building nearly complete, the restaurant has created a new environment from its predecessor.

“Everything is new except for the four outside walls,” Ternes said. “We have all new equipment. It’s nothing like it was before.”

BB Jacks includes family booth seating, a cocktail area and a private room for business meetings, parties and other special occasions. The facility seats up to 90 people.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, with the lunch menu including pizza, salad, sandwich and wrap options, and dinner including steak, prime rib, chicken and pasta entrees. They will serve fish fries on Fridays, a Wisconsin necessity, Ternes said. The bar also will feature 12 Wisconsin breweries.

BB Jacks first opened in Antigo 30 years ago. Since then, the restaurant has opened in Wausau and Rio, with the new DeForest restaurant replacing the Rio location.

DeForest Area Chamber of Commerce Director Lisa Beck said the restaurant will fill a need in the community: High quality and diverse lunch options.

“People in the area patron our existing businesses, but sometimes you run out of options,” Beck said. “And we want to keep people here rather than having them run to Madison or other communities.”

Beck said the lack of lunch venues in the area is particularly felt in the business community.

“We need options for our larger corporations in the area, to allow them to go on business lunch if they need a place to take a client out,” she said. “So, we’re really excited that he is opening.”

For both lunch and dinner, BB Jacks promises to be a welcome addition to the DeForest community, she said.

“We’re glad it will be oriented toward family,” she said. “He will be providing well-rounded meals with some nice menu options. So everyone is anxiously waiting for him to open his doors.”
