Milk Moola and Donuts to Dough is at Eagle Point Elementary School
Eagle Point Elementary School is participating in the Milk Moola and Donuts to Dough program, sponsored by Kwik Trip. Milk Moola is a way to earn 5 cents for each cap and bag top from Kwik Trip products such as milk, orange juice, bottled water and Kwik Trip’s fruit drinks. Donut to Dough is an easy way to earn 10 cents for each Glazers price oval. The money will be used for a variety of purposes such as new equipment, books, supplies and school-sponsored trips. Drop off items into the collection box at the DeForest Area Public Library.
DeForest Area Food Pantry at Windsor UCC needs help filling its shelves
The DeForest Area Food Pantry at the Windsor United Church of Christ, Windsor, has been serving the increasing needs in the area for food and supplies. Their shelves are depleted and they are looking for donations of the following items: Canned fruit, cereal, hamburger and tuna helper, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, tuna, canned meals such as Spaghettios and Raviolios, canned soup, canned vegetables, baked beans, chili, peanut butter, jelly, pudding, Jello, instant white rice (14 oz or 28 oz boxes), instant mashed potatoes (13 oz or 26 oz boxes), bar soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, disposable diapers (all sizes needed), shampoo/conditioner and laundry detergent.

The deadlines for placing all classified advertising – including garage sale ads – is Thursday, noon, for the next week’s shopper publication (please keep the timeframe in mind). The deadline for the newspaper is noon on Mondays for that week’s paper. Please remember to think a week ahead on garage sale ads to allow for publication deadlines.
DeForest Lions Eyeglasses Recycling
The DeForest Lions would like to remind area residents of its eyeglass-recycling program. Containers for used eyeglasses, which are cleaned, graded and sent to Third World countries or the Lions’ mission to Mexico. Containers are located around area communities. The Lions also collect used hearing aids and their batteries. Containers are located in the following locations: DeForest, Morrisonville and Windsor post offices, area DMB banks, the DeForest Area Public Library, Dr. Edward’s office, DeForest Housing Authority, the DeForest Area Community and Senior Center, Jefferson Square, Hometown Pharmacy and the DeForest Area Public Schools. Prairie Pride Pantry is open 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays, and 9 a.m. -10:30 a.m., Saturdays. The members of the Town of Windsor Board of Supervisors will meet at 5 p.m. tonight at Windsor Town Hall, 4084 Mueller Road, DeForest. The board will consider approving assignment of development agreement for Gorman & Co., Inc., (Prairie Creek subdivision); developing an ordinance to adopt State Wind Turbine Siting Rules by reference as requested by Dane County; consider a resolution to a Dane County Zoning Ordinance amendment for Belda Farms, Inc.; consider cancellation of the Jan. 3 board meeting; and then convene into closed session. All meetings of the Town of Windsor Board are open and the public is encouraged to attend.

Staff members of the DeForest Area Public Library will host a “Technology Petting Zoo” event at two different times on Friday, Dec. 21 – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. This is a chance to try out an iPad, Kindle, Nook or other device before you invest in one or to sharpen your skills if you already have one. You also will learn how to use the devices to connect to the library and get access to free e-books and audio books. No registration is necessary for this event.

Students from Ultimate Leap Dance Center (ULDC), DeForest, will perform in “Get Up And Dance!” at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 26, at the DeForest Area Community and Senior Center, 505 N. Main St. Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy a morning with the dancers and staff. Be entertained by some of their youngest dancers and the ULDC Performance Team. “Bottoms Up: Wisconsin’s Historic Bars and Breweries” screening to be at library Jan. 23
The DeForest Area Public Library will host authors Jim Draeger and Mark Speltz who will screen their film “Bottoms Up: Wisconsin’s Historic Bars and Breweries” at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23. The screening will be followed by a discussion. The presentation celebrates Wisconsin’s history by exploring the architecture and social history of Wisconsin’s bars and breweries. The information is based on the book by the two architectural historians.

Library to host two “Getting to Know Medicare” events in January
The DeForest Area Public Library will host two “Getting to Know Medicare” presentations in January 2013. The first will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, with the second at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 31. The presenter will be Jesse Grutz. Whether a person is new to Medicare or have had it for years, most people will have questions on the health program. Participants will receive overview of the program, learn about options and also individual rights in regard to Medicare. There are changes occurring every year in Medicare, if not several times throughout the year, so bring your questions and have them answered by a licensed professional at this seminar. Please feel free to bring a family member or friend to join you.
