Twelve statewide garage bands representing 24 high schools and middle schools, including Lake Mills, have been selected to perform at the ROCKONSIN State Finals to be held at Summerfest on June 27 and June 28 on the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage.
The band Salt, made up of students from Lake Mills and Fort Atkinson, will take the stage at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday June 27. Recent Lake Mills High School graduate Otto Griggas is a member of the band Salt. He teams up with three bandmates from Fort Atkinson High School.
Quick & Painless, a band made up of students from Lake Mills, Waunakee and Verona high schools will preform at 1:20 p.m on June 27. The lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of Quick & Painless is Lake Mills High School junior Everett Karlen. His band was in the 2018 ROCKONSIN winning band.
Each band will perform 15 minute sets and after their performance receive a private critique from one of the judges. The ROCKONSIN winner and runner-up will each win a second 45 minute set (runner-up:12:15 p.m.; winner: 1:15 p.m.) on July 7 on the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard Stage and recording time at Madison’s Blast House Studios.
All 12 State Finalist bands will each receive two Shure microphones (one vocal and one instrument with cords) and they will also be in the hunt for additional prizes such as a Aug. 9 gig at the 13th Waukesha Rotary BluesFest at Naga-Waukee Park in Delafield and more.
The three ROCKONSIN Madison Area Summerfest bound bands Quick & Painless, Flying Fuzz, and Salt were given awards and recognized at the Madison Area Music Awards show recently at the Overture Center.
