Foes no more.
Lake Mills senior JT Toepfer and Lakeside senior Jack Monis have been on opposite sides of the crosstown rivalry for four years. At the heart of the most-recent epoch of the rivalry are the tightly contested basketball games.
Toepfer leading Lake Mills and Monis leading Lakeside have been at the heart of their respective teams.
Monis and Toepfer will play on the same team as part of the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association all-star game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
So, will it be weird for Toepfer, the ultimate gamer?
“Heck no,” Toepfer said. “That dude (Monis) is like Dennis Rodman with a mid-range shot. I’ve always admired his game and can’t wait to play with him.”
Toepfer is committed to play basketball at Beloit College and Monis is committed to play basketball at Viterbo.
OK, but what about Monis, who said it was always sweeter to beat Lake Mills after eliminating the L-Cats in the playoffs this year, will it be weird to play with that persistent, nagging guard from Lake Mills?
“It definitely will be a little weird, but it will be fun,” Monis said. “I’d rather have him on my team than playing against him.”
