Autumn Tracy from Lake Mills, who is studying english at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is among this year’s scholarship recipients from the College of Letters and Sciences.

Tracy won the Kristine Grimsrud Memorial Scholarship. Kristine was a 1970 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a degree in English and a passion for poetry and creative writing. On Oct. 30, 1974, she died from injuries sustained in a plane crash. After her untimely death, family members found a multitude of poetry and prose in her files. Her poems, written between 1966 and 1974, were compiled into two books: Touching a Dream, self-published in December of 1974, and Waiting for a Flash of Brilliance, self-published in 2015. This generous scholarship is given to exceptional creative writers, based on a portfolio review and strong expression of commitment to creative writing.

“Our scholarship winners were chosen by faculty who recognize these students’ superior academic accomplishments, commitment, and passion for learning,” said Frank Goza, interim dean. “We are deeply grateful to our scholarship donors whose financial support ensures that students can focus on their education and academic endeavors.”
