Lodi’s Lily Griffing reaches extends for a ball against McFarland.

The Capitol Conference was very competitive in girls soccer and no team proved that more than Lodi. The Blue Devils closed out conference play on May 21 with their third tie.

The Lady Blue Devils played visiting Columbus to a 0-0 tie.

Lodi finished in fifth in the Capitol with a 2-2-3 mark.

Sugar River claimed the conference title with a 7-0 mark.

The Blue Devils closed out the regular season on May 23 with a 5-0 loss to visiting McFarland.

Lodi finished the regular season 7-6-5.

The Lady Blue Devils earned the eighth seed in the WIAA Division 2 playoffs and will host ninth-seeded Edgerton in the regional semifinal at 7 p.m. tonight.

Neither team’s offense was able to break through in the Capitol finale.

Lodi goalie Rylee Schmidt had a quiet night, as she did not face a shot on goal.

Columbus goalie Samantha Menomin was busy and made 12 saves.

McFarland 5

McFarland jumped out to a 2-0 lead and tacked on three insurance goals in the second half.

Greta Corcoran opened the scoring for the Spartans with a goal four minutes into the game.

McFarland’s Alexa Hettiger increased the lead to 2-0 at the 13-minute mark.

Hettiger scored again three minutes into the second half to push the lead to 3-0.

The Spartans closed out their scoring with a pair of goals by Peyton Witt in the final two minutes of the game.

Schmidt finished the game with five saves.

Katie Heldebrandt and Grace Henes both had two saves for McFarland.
