Winter Carnival

Children enjoy the bouncy house at last year's winter carnival.

Yarrr be feelin’ the winter blues?

Good thing the Poynette Area Public Library’s Winter Carnival is packed with free merriment for both young and old rabble-rousers.

The pirate-themed event runs Saturday, Feb. 4, from 1-4 p.m. It features games including ring toss and nerf target, as well as face-painting and temporary tattoos that will rival those of swindling pirates.

There will be a bouncy house, sponsored by the Friends of the Poynette Area Public Library.

Tickets from the games can be used in raffles for something akin to a pirate’s booty – special prizes that will be drawn after the carnival.

“It’s family fun and everyone’s invited,” said Library Director Lindsey Ganz.

Last year’s farm-themed carnival drew close to 300 people. Along with the winter reading program, it’s a way to take a fun break in the dead of winter.

“Kids are cooped up and looking to get some of that energy out,” Ganz said. “…Parents have a chance to get out with other parents.”

Of course, truly swashbuckling events need a core of volunteers, and Ganz said the library is accepting sign-ups at the front desk for set-up, take-down and running games.
