Kelli Yelk

Kelli Yelk was Lodi’s Fairest of the Fair in 2017.

As my reign as your 2017 Lodi Agricultural Fair’s Fairest of the Fair comes to an end, it is my privilege to look back and reflect on the amazing year I have had. During the fair I was able to experience things that I could not previously do as an exhibitor, and it was truly remarkable. Going behind the scenes and seeing all the hard work that goes into making the Lodi Agricultural Fair go off without a hitch is something that I cannot put into words. The volunteers work endlessly to make the Lodi Agricultural Fair what it is, and I will forever appreciate each and every one of them.

One of my favorite events this summer while at the fair was the pie auction, which is always a great hit. Seeing all of the community members and fair goers come together to support the Lodi Agricultural Fair as well as one another was a moving experience – not to mention the pies were all super tasty.

Something else I enjoyed was walking through the exhibition hall and different animal barns, and not only seeing the joy on the faces of the fairgoers, but also being approached by exhibitors. I learned so much from all of them! It was heartwarming to see how passionate they were about their projects and animals, and how eager they were to tell me all about them. I urge all of you to walk through the barns or the exhibition hall. If you are not approached, take it upon yourself to ask an exhibitor a question about their project or animal. I assure you that you will learn something new and you will be happy you asked.

In January, I was fortunate to attend the Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair’s Convention, where I competed with 35 other contestants for the title of the Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair. I learned so many valuable things at this convention and was able to make many friendships that I will never forget.

All the events I attended, the things I got to experience and learn, the people I met, and the friendships I made, are truly unmatchable and I will cherish them forever; the Lodi Agricultural Fair will always have a special place in my heart.

A special thanks to Doug and Connie Rauls, Belinda Zeman, and Doug Yelk for being my chauffeurs for the various parades I was able to attend throughout the summer – it’s easy to enjoy yourself when you have such stylish rides. Thank you to all the donors for my Fairest basket which was auctioned off at the fair convention. You are all truly very generous. I look forward to attending the Lodi Agricultural Fair this summer, and every summer after, giving back to an event that has changed my life in so many ways. I wish nothing but the best for the next Fairest, and I cannot wait to watch her embark on this exciting journey.
