The Lodi & Lake Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce will host its first-ever career fair at the Lodi Sports Recreational Center from 1-7 p.m. on Oct. 26.

Chamber Coordinator Taryn Latour indicated the need for employment in the Lake Wisconsin area, as one of the main reasons the event came to fruition. She said Mandy Sitzman, the former coordinator and Chamber President Tegan Krueger, owner of the Piggly Wiggly Main Street Market and chamber president, along with Latour’s,  were the main minds behind the event.

“After hearing that everyone was in need of employees, they started to consider the best way to help out [our] businesses, which will hopefully bring hundreds of people to the area.” Latour said.

The fair will showcase businesses that are solely members of the Lodi & Lake Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce. Latour said 10-15 businesses have decided to attend, though the chamber wants to increase that number to 30. The LSRC donated their room for the fair, she said and the event is free for chamber members and to prospective employees.

“We’re hoping to reach the surrounding communities as well as bring people closer to Lodi to see what is needed,” Latour said.

Latour said some of the businesses the event will feature are Lodi Piggly Wiggly, Portage-based 139 Supply and the Lodi School District, though the district will be looking for substitute teachers with the necessary credentials.

The event will be open to anyone looking for full-time and part-time employment. Latour said the event times will especially encourage those with tight schedules to come out and apply.

In addition, Latour said high school students are urged to attend and apply as well, as the chamber wished to emphasize the importance of supporting local business.

In the future, she said the chamber would like to open the event to non-chamber businesses, which might incentivize them to become members.

“Come as you are,” she said referring to how job-seekers should dress for the career fair.

The Lodi & Lake Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce intends to schedule two career fairs a year, one in October and one in May. The date for next spring’s career fair is yet to be determined, Latour said.
