The border war of girls high school soccer rivals McFarland and Monona Grove came to an end after the first 30 minutes of the April 8 non-conference match.
The Spartans jumped out a 3-0 halftime lead and went on to top the Silver Eagles 4-1. McFarland’s hero on offense was Peyton Witt, who found the back of the net three times in the contest and assisted on the team’s fourth goal.
She scored her first in the 18th minute off a Greta Corcoran assist and then assisted on Lexi Hettiger’s tally in the 25th minute. Five minutes later, Witt struck again with an unassisted goal to increase the Spartan lead to 3-0.
Witt completed her hat trick in the 61st minute to raise the advantage to four. Mady Davis-Troller scored Monona Grove’s only goal on a penalty kick with four minutes left in regulation.
McFarland had 11 shots on goal while the team’s goalkeeper Katie Hildebrandt made seven saves. In 2018, the teams played to a 1-1 tie. Before that, MG beat McFarland five times in a row dating back to 2011.
