Viroqua’s Sylvi Shonka scored the game-winning goal with 4:30 left in regulation as the Icebergs girls high school co-op dropped a 3-2 decision to the Blackhawks Nov. 27.
Monona Grove’s Brynn Weaver erased a 1-0 Viroqua lead at 9:40 of the first period off an assist from Oregon’s Izzy Newton. The Icebergs took a 2-1 lead one minute into the second period as Paige Nelson of Stoughton tallied off an assist from Kelsey Waldner, also from Stoughton.
But the Blackhawks knotted up the game 10 minutes later as Maia Barendregt found the back of the net off an assist from Erin Simonsen.The Icebergs outshot Viroqua 35-18 including a 15-5 advantage in the second period.
Stoughton goaltender Abby Seybold was credited with 15 saves.The defeat dropped the Icebergs record to 1-3.
The Icebergs return to the ice Friday with a home game against the Rock County Fury. Faceoff at Mandt Arena in Stoughton is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Fury has a 2-3 record in their first five games.
The team consists of players from Monona Grove, McFarland, Oregon, Stoughton, Deerfield and Evansville.
