Some more clutch pitching helped the McFarland High School baseball team defeat Rock Valley foe Evansville in a low scoring duel April 9.

Starter JT Pimental allowed five hits, struck out one and walked two in 5.1 innings as the Spartans defeated the host Blue Devils 2-0.

Gabe Roderick relieved Pimental in the sixth inning and gave up no hits with one strikeout in 1.2 innings.

McFarland had only two hits with both coming with one out in the third inning. Carson Wienke singled and Cam Schaaf reached on a bunt single. After Wienke raced to third base on an error, he scored McFarland’s first run on an Aaron Miller bunt.

The Spartans added their second run in the fifth inning when Pimental walked and moved to third after Gavin Wood was safe at first on an error by the catcher.

Pimental eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Schaaf to put McFarland ahead 2-0.

Blue Devils starter Ethan France who struck out four and walked three took the loss even though he allowed only two hits. Both McFarland runs were unearned as Evansville committed two errors.

McFarland travels to East Troy this afternoon for another Rock Valley showdown. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
