Shirley Elizabeth (Teddi) Barr, age 68, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg on Sunday, April 21, 2013, with her family at her bedside, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Teddi was born on Sept. 1, 1944, in Rockford, Ill, the daughter of Lt. Ted F. and Virginia (Gloss) Forcum of Mt. Morris, Ill. Teddi was raised in Mt. Morris by her mother as her father was killed in action in Italy during World War II. Teddi and her father never saw each other before his untimely death. She attended school in Mt. Morris and graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1962. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Rockford School of Business, Rockford, Ill.
Teddi married Steve Barr on Nov. 28, 1964, in the Mt. Morris Methodist Church. They spent the first two years of their married life in Janesville where Steve was a teacher and coach and Teddi was employed at Mercy Hospital. They moved to South Milwaukee for two years, then settled in McFarland when Steve took teaching and coaching positions at James Madison Memorial High School on the west side of Madison in 1968. In 1972 they took over the summer boat and cottage rental business on Lake Waubesa in McFarland that Steve’s parents had owned and operated since 1936.
Teddi was preceded in death by her father, Lt. Ted F. Forcum; mother, Virginia Gloss Forcum; father-in-law, Walter Barr; and mother-in-law, Laura Barr.
Survivors include her husband, Steve of McFarland; children, Mike (Kika) of McFarland and Tom of Island Park, Idaho; grandchildren, Brian (fiancé, Melanie Kloes) of Madison, Debora and Marcus of McFarland; best friend since childhood, Sally Gray of Mt. Morris, Ill; and extended family and friends throughout the United States.
Funeral services will be held at Gunderson Stoughton Funeral Home, 1358 Hwy. 51, Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, with Pastor James Koza presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. There will be a celebration of Teddi’s life at the American Legion Post 534, 4911 Burma Rd., McFarland, following services on Thursday.
