A march to honor the 100 Years Votes for Women will take place on Monday, June 10, starting at 5 p.m. at the Town Square in downtown Janesville.
In celebration of the progress of women locally, nationally and globally, the 100 Votes for Women March of Progress will begin with poster-making at 4 p.m., a walk to the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) at 5 p.m., culminating in a “Living-History Show” at JPAC at 6 p.m.
The event aims to educate participants on the history-making efforts of women pioneers, celebrate a century of progress, and honor advocacy for women’s rights and equality for generations to come. Sponsored by Blackhawk Community Credit Union, the event is also hosted by the League of Women Voters-Janesville and the Woman’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
“As women, the pioneers of the past should inspire us to live our full potential, so that the women and girls that follow after us will have seen that modeled,” says Sherri Stumpf, President of Blackhawk Community Credit Union. “We live in a time where anything is possible and this event serves as a spark for our community to continue our work towards women’s equality.”
Commemorative scarves and buttons are available online at www.cfsw.org/events.
