On the evening of April 1, 2019, June Philips Gara, 95, went to the home of our Lord. She was born August 7, 1923, to Julius Christian Philips and Ferne Philips in Rockford, Illinois. She spent the first 17 years of her life in Wheaton, Illinois, in a home built by her father. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1945 then moved to San Francisco, California, where she met and married William James Gara (Bill). The couple moved to Milton in 1950 where they would live until their move to Janesville in 1977. June worked for many years as a beloved Milton librarian after a long career at Mork & Mork Chiropractic in Janesville. She and Bill retired to Sonoma County, California, in 1991 to be close to children and a growing number of grandchildren.

June was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had an unwavering dedication to God and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Atkinson, often appearing as guest pianist, and the First Baptist Church in Sonoma, California. It was this love and belief that made her strong in the knowledge she was going to meet her beloved family in heaven.

She is survived by her son Alan Keith Gara, New Braunfels, Texas; daughters Donna Lee Gara, Oregon; Aubyn Gara Dutton, El Cerrito, California; and Francine Gara, Santa Rosa, California; grandchildren Michael Cervantes, Jackie Gara Yelland, Michelle Jardine Benson, Philip Dutton and Nicholas Dutton; great grandchildren Emma Yelland, Isabelle Yelland, Jacob Yelland, Logan Yelland, Theodore Dutton and Desmond Benson. She was predeceased by her parents, son Steven Gara, and husband, Bill.

Interment of June’s ashes will be at the Luther Valley Church, Beloit, Wisconsin, with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson, at a date not yet determined.
