Monona Grove High School boys golf coach Dan Zweifel was happy to see his team shoot the lowest round of the season at the May 28 WIAA Division 1 sectionals in Mukwonago.

But it wasn’t good enough for a state berth, as the Silver Eagles took sixth out of eight teams. Lake Geneva Badger fired a 301 and Mukwonago a 303 to advance to the state tournament as the top two qualifying teams.

Freshman Jacob Frederickson and sophomore Connor Bracken both shot 80 for MG’s lowest individual scores.

Frederickson saved par on five holes and scored birdies on the par-5 13th hole and par-3 14th hole. Bracken scored an eagle on the 13th and a birdie on the par-3 third hole and parred eight other holes.

Senior Sam Gronski had a career low 82, which included three birdies and seven pars.

Sophomore Drew Munn ended with an 83 after making an eagle on the 13th and shooting for par on five holes.

Freshman Jordan Hibner also had an eagle on the 13th and made three other pars to finish with a 91.

Zweifel said senior Vic Banovetz did not play due to an injury suffered in practice the weekend before.

Blake Wisdom of Lake Geneva Badger had the lowest individual scored with a one-under par 71.
