Civilian Gallantry Award

Cottage Grove resident Jude Wolf, center, accepts an award from Police Lt. Matt Wagner, left, while Chief Dan Layber looks on during the Monday, Jan. 20, meeting of the Cottage Grove Village Board. Wolf received the Civilian Gallantry Award for physically intervening to help a local police officer arrest a man Dec. 14, 2019. The subject tried to strike the officer, grabbed for his gun and physically resisted arrest. Wolf saw this occurring from nearby and immediately went to the officer's assistance by physically grabbing the subject and pushing him into a position for the officer to handcuff him. Wolf did not hesitate to assist and had no regard for his own safety in this potentially dangerous situation, Layber said.
