A Portage couple out on felony bond for multiple previous heroin delivery charges was arrested Oct. 17 on more heroin charges, among others.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s drug task force concluded a drug investigation leading to the arrest of Rainelle and Rodney Cheever.

Rodney Cheever was identified as a heroin source who was providing heroin to individuals in and around Portage. During the arrest and subsequent search of the Cheevers, law enforcement found heroin, a hand gun and drug paraphernalia.

Rainelle M. Cheever, 27, was charged with felony possession of heroin, felony delivery of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony bail jumping.

Rodney E. Cheever, 29, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of a weapon, drugged driving while under the influence of heroin, felony delivery of heroin, and felony bail Jumping.

Both were also referred for child neglect charges as they had their infant child with them in the vehicle during the delivery of heroin and while driving while under the influence.

Rodney and Rainelle Cheever are in the Columbia County Jail and made their initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court on Oct. 19.

Second arrest

Mitchell Evan Stanford, 22 Endeavor, was arrested for two counts of felony delivery of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, delivery of marijuana, and possession of marijuana in the jail, following an Oct. 21 arrest.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s drug task force and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office concluded a drug investigation leading to the arrest Stanford.

The Portage Police Department also assisted in the investigation.

Stanford was identified as a heroin source who was providing heroin to individuals in Portage and Wisconsin Dells. During the arrest and subsequent search of Stanford, law enforcement found a heroin user kit, money, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia. He tried to conceal the marijuana on him and tried to smuggle it into the jail.

Stanford was also arrested for driving while under the influence of heroin. His initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court is scheduled for Oct. 23.
