Sun Prairie junior Mickey Keating shot a 77 to finish in a fifth-place tie at the Big Eight Conference Meet.

EVANSVILLE — Led by Top 10 performances by Mickey Keating and Ethan Carrick the Sun Prairie boys golf team played to a third-place finish at the Big Eight Conference Meet.

Keating shot a 77 to finish in a tie for fifth, while Carrick finished in a tie for eighth firing a 79, leading the Cardinals to a team score of 325 on Thursday at Evansville Golf Course (part 72).

“We held our seed,” said Sun Prairie head coach Steve Braatz. “We were seeded third based on our conference record (7-2).

After a pair of hour delays, the teams were able to get all 18 holes in.

“Mickey and Ethan played consistently,” said Braatz.

Keating, a junior, shot a 40 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. Meanwhile, Carrick, a senior, fired a 41 on the front side and a 38 on the back side.

“Evansville is a challenging course featuring quick greens with subtle breaks. Putting was an issue for all five of our golfers,” said Braatz.

Junior Ryan Batterman shot an 85 (45-40) while senior Dalton List (51-37) and senior Cade MacMiller (46-42) each carded 88s.

“We will look to improve as we move to regionals.” Braatz said.

Sun Prairie will compete in the WIAA Division 1 DeForest Regional on Tuesday. Play begins at 9 a.m. at Windsor Country Club.
