The Sun Prairie Red Birds retained first place in the Eastern Section following a pair of Home Talent League wins over the weekend.

On Sunday, home runs by Justin Krebs and Nate Hoffman highlighted a 10-3 victory over the host Montello Granite Jaxx. Both Krebs and Hoffman drove in four runs, each finishing with a pair of hits.

Jack Maastricht (3x5), Randy Molina (2x5), Aaron Schmidt (2x4) and Carson Holin (2x5) also had multiple-hit games as the Red Birds amassed 14 hits.

Nick Mailandt pitched a complete game three-hitter to earn the win.

The Red Birds (8-2 overall, 5-1 Eastern) hosted Portage on Saturday and Taylor Middaugh was almost unhittable, limiting the Skeeters to three hits at Ashley Field.

Middaugh struck out 11 batters while only walking two, while just one Portage player reached second base.

Middaugh was staked with an early 3-0 lead. Holin singled and scored on Krebs’ sacrifice fly giving Sun Prairie a 1-0 first-inning lead, before Maastricht brought home Middaugh with a sac fly and Ty Hamilton drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to force in Mailandt in the second inning.

Molina had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, while Hamilton went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
