The Sun Prairie boys tennis team rolled to three victories during the Madison West Invitational on Saturday.
The Cardinals defeated Greendale 5-2, Waunakee 4-3, and Muskego 6-1.
Three singles players had perfect days to lead the Cardinals’ way. Senior Josh Baldwin went 3-0 for the second-straight week, as did freshman Jacob Baldwin. Meanwhile, also going 3-0 was junior Jonathan Pulver.
Josh Baldwin earned a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win at No. 1 singles over Greendale’s Nate Bilan, before scoring two wins at No. 2 singles. The first was a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Waunakee’s Reed Christian, before Baldwin bested Muskego’s Jack Armour, 6-1, 6-1.
Jacob Baldwin also played at two different singles flights. He beat Greendale’s Tom Hess, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while at No. 3 singles earned victories over Waunakee’s Collin Klug, 6-0, 6-0, and Muskego’s Aaron Gibbs, 6-1, 6-1, to move his season record to 6-0.
Pulver played at No. 3 singles against Greendale’s Tommy Young, winning 6-3, 6-0, before No. 4 singles wins over Waunakee’s Hayden Liu, 6-, 6-0, and Muskego’s Will Schantz, 6-2, 6-2.
Also going 3-0 was the SP No. 3 doubles team of Jet Matteson and Sachin Suresh. The senior duo grounded Greendale’s Evan Smazal and Jonny Hottinger, 6-3, 6-2, then withstood Waunakee’s Grant Basler and Matthew Pulvermacher in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7. They finished with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Muskego’s Michael Kordasiewicz and David Bundy.
Also earning wins for Sun Prairie Saturday was Aidan Schutter, a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set winner over Muskego’s Luke Foye at No. 1 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Erik Spence and Kyle Helmenstine, a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 winner over Muskego’s Leo Ponteri and Ross Baldwin.
The team title of the Madison West Invite will be determined Wednesday when the Cardinals face the Regents, which is part of the Waukesha West Tournament.
