Though the deadline for filing for candidacy is months away, Sun Prairie resident Bryn Horton officially announced her candidacy for Sun Prairie School Board in a letter emailed to The Sun Prairie Star on Sept. 26.
In the letter, she said she has been a Sun Prairie resident for more than 7 years and has two children in the Sun Prairie Area School District.
Horton has volunteered in both kids’ schools, currently serving as president of the parent groups at Eastside Elementary School and Patrick Marsh Middle School.
She also served on the School Space Planning Committee and the Boundary Task Force during the process to open two new elementary schools in the district.
“Volunteering in and for our schools has inspired me to do more for kids,” Horton said in the letter. “I want to ensure our children have what they need to be successful in school and, ultimately, in life.”
Two School Board seats – currently held by members Marilyn Ruffin and Marta Hansen – will be up for re-election in April during the spring general election.
Candidates must declare their candidacy by filing papers with the board clerk. Members are elected from the district at large and serve three-year terms.
