Barrs and Hudzinskis

Abby and Cory Barr (left) recently agreed to purchase Ski’s Saloon and reopen it as the Barr House this fall, from April and Tony Hudzinski (right). Tony and April opened Ski’s Saloon in 2011 following an extensive remodeling.

Tony and April Hudzinski, owners of Ski’s Saloon at 100 W. Main, publicly announced their intention to sell the business to Cory and Abby Barr.

The new establishment, set to open this fall, will be known as The Barr House.

“After five wonderfully full and rewarding years, we . . . are excited to announce that Ski’s Saloon will have new owners in September,” April Hudzinski recently announced on Facebook.

“We know this may feel a little strange announcing such news over a month before the transition, but we’ve always been open and honest with our team, our customers and the Sun Prairie community, so felt it was important you heard about this news from us,” Hudzinski added.

April Hudzinksi wrote that she believed the establishment will be in good hands.

“Cory and Abby have been strong leaders within the Sun Prairie community for years and we feel they represent similar values, goals and dreams,” Hudzinski wrote on Facebook. “They have joined us on our journey since the beginning and what started as a friendly conversation has organically evolved into a new reality for all of us. We couldn’t imagine passing the torch . . . onto anyone else and feel blessed to be part of such a beautiful synergy!”

“We’re confident the next chapter will be just as magical and are honored to introduce ‘The Barr House’ which will open at 100 W. Main in Sun Prairie this fall,” she added.

The Hudzinskis open Ski’s about five years ago after remodeling the former Toot’s Tap, adding drink specials and large format TV screens in addition to charity nights and live music throughout the five years they have owned the building.

“We know there will be questions, an array of emotions and we thank you in advance for your kindness and support,” April Hudzinski added, “as we all humbly navigate this new endeavor.”

The Barr House already has its own Facebook page (facebook.com/Barrhouseonmain) and Twitter handle (@Barrhouseonmain) to prepare for the transition.

Cory said the bar business seems hereditary.

“Having owning of a bar business being in my blood, I have always dreamed of owning my own someday. Growing up, my family and I would head to the great area known as ‘up north.’ In this area lies a small town known as Greenwood. Just outside of the small town, you would find ‘Barr’sBar,’ a bar that was owned and operated by my grandparents, Jacob and Ruth Barr, for over 58 years.

“It was a great and fun place that I often enjoyed going to when visiting my grandparents. All the great people from the community would be there at one point in the night it seemed,” he wrote on Facebook.

The bar still exists, but with different owners, and is known as Behind Barr’s today.

Barr, a member of the Sun Prairie Fire Department for 14 years where he serves as captain, met his wife in Sun Prairie in 2008 and have twin girls. “Tony, April, Cory and Abby will be working hard to ensure a seamless transition,” Barr added, “and continue the amazing customer service we all know and love.”
