A Greater Madison Vision

Madison and Dane County leaders from business, government and the nonprofit sector are calling for the public’s input on regional planning this fall.

Dane County residents will be able to take a 10-minute online survey starting this September, to share their views on how the region should grow and develop.

A Greater Madison Vision’s mission is to create a shared vision and plan in order to guide public and private decisions about how the region grows.

The group’s steering committee of leaders from throughout the region want to use public input to help create regional development that will foster exceptional quality of life, economic opportunity, and a healthy environment for all.

“Madison and Dane County are growing quickly.

During the next 25 years Dane County’s population is expected to grow by over 150,000 people – the equivalent of two Camp Randall stadiums full of football fans,” said Larry Palm, Chair of the Capitol Area Regional Planning Commission.

“A Greater Madison Vision is designed to get meaningful feedback from people now,” Palm added, “so communities and organizations can establish the right priorities when planning for growth.”

The online survey will allow residents to explore four alternative futures considering housing, jobs, transportation, roads, rural preservation, water and the environment.

Residents can choose from alternative futures focusing on innovation, conservation, community and self-reliance and provide their opinion on how the region should grow.

Paul Jadin, President, Madison Region Economic Partnership, encourages everyone to participate in the survey.

“This survey demonstrates the significant choices we’ll need to make to accommodate projected growth in this region,” Jadin added.

The survey will launch on Wednesday, Sept. 12, with launch events happening all day throughout the county.

Anyone high school age or older who lives, works, or spends time in Dane County is encouraged to take the survey available at greatermadisonvision.com from Sept. 12 through Nov. 12, 2018.

A Greater Madison Vision will develop a shared vision and plan to guide public and private decisions about how the region grows, to foster exceptional quality of life, economic opportunity and a healthy environment for all.

Sun Prairie Mayor Paul Esser is a member of the Greater Madison Vision Steering Committee; learn more about the commitee online at greatermadisonvision.com.
