Kick off summer by helping locally and globally — just grab a pair of flip flops to help our local community and global communities in need with the seventh annual Flip Floppin’ Into Summer flip flop collection drive.
This annual event, started in 2012 by First Choice Insurance Solutions (FCIS), sends flip flops to Tanzania, Africa, through the non-profit organization based out of Sun Prairie, Hope 2 Others.
The flip flops provide an essential barrier from microscopic organisms in the soil that carry life-threatening diseases. A simple pair of flip flops can help save a life, preventing these diseases from entering the body through the feet. Having access to flip flops is an easy way to help prevent those diseases.
FCIS is looking for new children and adult-sized flip flops to send off to Tanzania. The need is for children’s and women’s flip flops as the goal is to help keep mothers healthy to care for the young children.
As an added incentive, for every pair of flip flops donated, FCIS will give $2 to support Shelter From the Storm Ministries, right here in Sun Prairie, along with another non-profit organization. Our goal is to collect 1,000 flip flops this year through community support.
Spending a $1 on a pair of flip flops can help save a life in Tanzania and bring an additional $2 per pair to our own Sun Prairie community.
“This July we [Hope 2 Others] will be teaching and working with Tanzania tribes,” said Karen Klemp of Hope 2 Others. “These are very poor tribes who have very little and are usually barefoot. When we take the flip-flops to them they are truly blessed beyond measure and more grateful than you can ever imagine. They are so filled with joy. Seeing parents light up when they and their children receive these flip-flops and put them on is a real blessing.”
“With summer only 94 days long, kick off summer by donating some flip flops to help our Sun Prairie community and folks in Africa. Together, we can make a difference. FCIS is committed to kicking off summer and helping others for our seventh consecutive year. Let’s make this the best year yet,” said Nicole LaBuwi, owner of FCIS. In the past years, FCIS has collected more than 5,000 flip flops and donated more than $5,000 to the Sun Prairie community.
Drop off donations during regular business hours beginning June 21 through July 31 at FCIS, which is located at 1777 W Main St. in the Wagner’s Crossing Building.
