Sun Prairie Utilities (SPU) has filed a notice of an intent to increase water rates by three percent with the Public Service Commission.
In a notice published in the Friday, June 21, 2019 issue of the Sun Prairie Star, SPU said the increase is required “to reduce the existing deficiency in present rates.”
Monthly rates for average residential customers will increase from $15.10 to $15.55 if the PSC approves the rate increase. Large residential customer monthly rates will increase from $20.74 to $21.36.
Commercial customer monthly rates will increase from $43.68 to $45.03, while industrial users (22,420 cubic feet of water per month) will have their monthly rates increase from $306.06 to $315.30.
The three percent increase also applies to public fire protection and wholesale rates, if applicable.
If approved by the PSC, SPU will implement the rate increases effective Aug. 5.
