COLUMBUS — Claire Huggett not only earned school but family bragging rights at the 2019 Capitol Conference Meet, held May 14 in Columbus.
Huggett broke the school record in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 29.88 seconds, breaking the mark previously set by her older sister, Alanna.
The fifth-place finish, which earned Huggett second-team all-conference honors, was one of two top-5 performances by the senior, who also placed fourth in the 800m with a 2:32.48 clocking.
Marshall’s top performance came from junior Gianna Dugan, who ran a 12:05.33 in the 3,200 to finish second and earned first-team all-conference.
Leading the Waterloo girls was Christi Forman. The junior earned a pair of top-5 finishes, placing third in the 3,200m (12:05.33) and fourth in the 1,600m (5:28.01).
Also placing in the top-5 were senior Samantha Battenberg (2nd, pole vault, 8-feet) and sophomore Brooke Mosher (5th, triple jump, 32-2 ½).
The Waterloo boys had several top-5 finishes.
Senior Brenen Skalitzky earned the team’s highest finish, a second in the 800 meters in the time of 2:03.97.
The Pirates also had top-5 performances from Earnest Jiles (3rd, triple jump, 40-7 ¼), Spencer Noel (3rd, pole vault, 12-0), Cody Kegler (4th, 110 hurdles, :16.30), and the 4x400 relay team of Skalitzky, Noel, Kegler and Jiles who ran a 3:46.55 to place fifth.
Marshall had one top-5 finish, a fifth by junior Jack Moen in the discus (119-1).
