Joseph Cook makes a throw to first base from third in the Waterloo McKays’ 5-1 defeat Sunday against the Fort Atkinson Generals.

FORT ATKINSON — The Waterloo McKays had their hands full with Fort Atkinson Generals’ Dan Dean on Sunday afternoon. Dean handcuffed the McKays all afternoon. The big right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out 11 in the complete-game performance as the Generals earned a 5-1 Home Talent League Southeast Section win at Jones Park.

The McKays (2-3 overall, 1-3 SE) scored their lone run in the second inning, but the run actually gave them a 1-0 lead. Ben Vehlow singled before scoring on a Fort error.

The Generals (4-2 SE) got that run back along with another to take a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the inning, and never looked back.

With Dean in full control of the McKay bats, Fort Atkinson added three insurance runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead.

Vehlow and Brock Riege had the lone hits for Waterloo.

Vehlow was saddled with the pitching loss.

(Night League)

The McKays doubled up visiting Albion 8-4 to win their HTL East Night League opener on May 30.

Waterloo erased a 4-2 deficit scoring four times in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brett Jakel’s two-run single was the key hit, while Easton Ellis added an RBI.

Ben Lincks and Kale Grossman each had two hits, while Lincks and Jakel each drove in a pair of runners.

The McKays play at Cottage Grove on Thursday with the first pitch set for 8 p.m.

Waterloo returns home Sunday hosting the Utica Association in a 1 p.m. start at Firemen’s Park.
