The Marshall School District has suspended its summer fishing program and the Marshall Area Business Association has put its carp contest on hold while the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources investigates the cause of a number of dead fish turning up in the Maunesha River.
Many of the fish displayed external lesions. A preliminary diagnosis has been announced, but confirmation of the diagnosis will not take place until the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Lab reviews the bacteria samples.
It is recommended people avoid handling fish due to the potentially high level of bacteria in the water.
More information will be provided as it is made available.
