Westport’s town board has approved a $270,000 bid for the construction project that will take place on Caton Lane and Salter Court in coming months.

The contract has been awarded to Raymond P. Cattell, Inc., of Madison.

The company’s bid came in approximately $70,000 lower than the $340,000 which Town Engineer Kevin Even had estimated such a project would cost.

“We have previously worked with Raymond P. Cattell, Inc. on projects for the Town and Village of Waunakee,” Even stated in a recent e-mail. “Based on our previous experience with this contractor, we have found Raymond P. Cattell, Inc. to be responsible.”

Town Administrator Tom Wilson said construction could begin as early as September, and that property owners will be able to speak with the town’s engineer regarding any of their concerns.

The town received a grant of approximately $30,000 from the county, to help fund the project.
