Jarrett Wulf fires a shot on goal during the second half of Waunakee’s 15-2 victory over Hudson on Friday. Wulf scored four times in the win.

The Waunakee boys’ lacrosse team played only one game this past week, but they made sure to make the most of it.

The Warriors put together one of their most complete games of the season thus far, defeating Hudson by a big margin.

“This game’s all about momentum…” said Waunakee’s Head Coach Mike Reiter. “There are going to be days where it seems like everything’s going great.”

Waunakee’s momentum took a while to build up, but once it got going, they proved to be nearly unstoppable. Late in the first half, Waunakee’s lead stood at just 4-2 in what appeared to be a tight contest.

A Jarrett Wulf goal with just six seconds remaining in the half proved to be the breaking point for the Raiders.

Waunakee opened up the second half with three goals in less than three minutes, resulting in a goalie change for Hudson. A new goalie didn’t make much of a difference; Waunakee racked up four more goals throughout the rest of the third quarter, taking a 12-2 lead into the fourth.

It was more of the same in the final quarter of the game, as Waunakee tacked on three more goals to give the game its final score of 15-2.

Wulf and Clayton Cerett led the team with four goals apiece, followed by Jack Gengler with three, Luke Reiter with two, and Thomas Meffert and Matthew Lindley with one each.

“Jarrett has just gotten better and better and better; from his sophomore season to his junior season to this season, every year he’s made a considerable jump…” Reiter said of the senior attacker.

Ray Olkowski didn’t have a busy day in goal, but played steadily in limiting Hudson to just two goals. Nick Schroeder led the team by collecting three groundballs, followed by Wulf, Wyatt Ziegler, Parker Stedman Lindley, and Brayden Olstad with two each.

The win marks Waunakee’s fifth straight victory, pushing their record to 5-2 (3-0 Big Badger) for Tuesday’s contest against Middleton, the results of which were not available for this week’s edition. Waunakee’s next game comes on the road at Eastside on Thursday, followed by a home contest against Janesville the following Tuesday. Game time at Warrior Stadium against Janesville is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
