Applications have been prepared and are available on the Village of Waunakee’s website for those interested in filling the vacant trustee seat on the village board.

The seat was left open when longtime trustee Susan Springman announced her resignation last month, saying she had decided to sell her home and move out of the village.

At the July 1 Waunakee Village Board meeting, the board heard an update about the process of filling the vacancy. Todd Schmidt, village administrator, and Caitlin Stene, assistant administrator, worked with Village President Chris Zellner and Trustee Joe Zitzelsberger on the application form, Schmidt said.

Applications are due to village officials by the end of the day July 15.

Afterwards, they will be reviewed, and interviews will be set up with Zellner and Zitzelsberger at a location and time to be determined.

A public discussion will be held afterwards, and Zellner is expected to make a recommendation on the trustee on or before the Aug. 5 meeting.

As of the July 1 meeting, one person had applied, Stene said, adding that several had called with questions about the vacancy.
