Surprise tribute

Waunakee High School staff surprised outgoing principal Brian Kersten with a tribute in the Performing Arts Center May 28. Each department presented a program, including the music department, whose members invited Kersten to sit in on drums as they playfully performed Ray Charles’ “Hit the Road Jack.” Kersten is retiring after 26 years as principal and 34 years in education. Tryg Knutson, state Sen. Jon Erpenbach’s staffer, read a proclamation on behalf of the senator and state Rep. Dianne Hesselbein.
