The Oakland Town Board, at their July 19 meeting, approved a zoning and conditional use permit for the Valley View Recreational Club. The club sought to add new camp sites, storage sheds, pavilion and storm shelter, and sanitation facilities.

As they stand now, Valley View Recreational Club has 13 permanent camp sites, but after the board’s approval, the club now looks to have 50 sites. Of those new camp sites, 40 will be for members, with ten for visitors. The new sites will include water and electricity, and campers will be able to leave their campers at the sites indefinitely.

Valley View had tried previously in 1993 to have these same changes made. Due to the political climate at the time, however, they withdrew their requests from the town board due to a perceived futility at having the requests approved.

This time around, the board was more open to their requests. Noting how the club has rarely had any complaints or problems, the board approved Valley View’s requests after making sure that emergency vehicles would still have easy access to the site—just in case.
