Stomp and romp into 2016 with the Milwaukee County Zoo’s running of the Samson Stomp & Romp.

Sunday, Jan. 17 marks the 36th running of the event. The main 5K run officially takes off at 9:30 a.m., a variety of other race distances follow, and all of the proceeds benefit the zoo’s animal collection, with an emphasis on the relatives of Samson, the silverback gorilla (1950-1981). Samson was a true icon for the zoo’s collection.

Both adults and children can choose to participate in different race distances.The races are conducted throughout the zoo, 10001 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee, Wis. 53226.

Participants may register for a 5K (3.1mile) run beginning at 9:30 a.m. or the two-mile fun run/walk starting at 10:15 a.m.

Children can join a one-mile romp at 10:45 a.m. or a 1/4 mile miniromp at 11 a.m.

Race day registration fee is $30 per participant. Registra-tions on race day cannot be taken after 9 a.m., and only cash or checks will be accepted. The awards ceremony will take place at approximately 11:15 a.m. in the Peck Welcome Center.
