Two motorcyclists crashed on Interstate 39 near DeForest late Thursday afternoon, leaving a 66-year-old man from Indianapolis, Indiana, dead.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the accident occurred at 4:40 p.m. as the two motorcycles were heading northbound on I-39. Traffic had started to slow in front of them. The two motorcyclists tried to change lanes to avoid traffic when one of them lost control and crashed into the other.

The names of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of the families.

According to the press release, one of the motorcyclists suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, before succumbing to his injuries on Monday, July 8. The other motorcyclist, a 42-year-old man from Noblesville, Indiana, had no injuries.

The crash is still under investigation. It appears from the press release that alcohol was not involved.
