Board made right choice
Thank you to the DeForest Village Board for authorizing the negotiation of a severance agreement for Police Chief Furseth. Police officers have a legal monopoly on the use of force, so especial care should be taken to ensure that officers are able to treat all individuals rationally and fairly. Furseth’s actions demonstrate a disdain for black people, poor people, or both and as such he does not meet this qualification.
He has broken the bond of trust with the public that is essential for a police officer--let alone Chief--to be able to effectively do his job.
Comments I’ve seen on the Times-Tribune’s Facebook posts calling for witch hunts to dig up dirt on the Village Board members who voted for Furseth’s termination are immature and miss the point entirely.
