The staff would like to thank Becky Weber for her 29 years of service at the Leader, and for her help and guidance to new employees over the past year.

Hello Lake Mills! We are happy you are seeing our paper for free today. This is one of three showcase papers your Lake Mills Leader does every year, going to every home and business in town.

We hope you like what you see in this issue and become a regular subscriber. We work hard here to bring you local stories about Lake Mills citizens doing things great and ordinary, or sometimes extraordinary. The stories we tell in this paper are about you, your children, grandchildren and friends, so please consider subscribing today. Support from our local readers has kept us here in Lake Mills for over 140 years.

Santa can be seen over Commons Park on your way into town on Mulberry St, so it must be time for the holidays.

Many people started shopping last week with the big ‘Black Friday’ weekend sales. We here at the Leader suggest you check out some of our local shops. Lake Mills is filled with great places to shop, eat and drink, so consider gift cards to local establishments this holiday season in addition to other sought-after gifts.

I plan to head out to the wreath sale this weekend put on by the Legendaries 4-H Club at Lake Mills Market. I’ve never had a real Christmas wreath before and I think it’s time I get one. When I was a kid we always used to have a real Christmas tree and while I love the idea of it and the smell, an artificial tree works much better for me at home with kids and dogs.

If you think a real Christmas tree is just what you need to celebrate the holidays in your home this year, you can pick up a pre-cut tree right next door to the Leader building at the corner of Main and Oak streets. Trinity Lutheran Church will be selling the trees, that are sure to perk up your holiday celebrations, with funds going to the Lake Mills Food Pantry. You can also pick one up at Ace Hardware. It’s the 25th year the fundraiser has been going on and patrons will have their selection between fraser fir, balsam and white pine trees.

Hope to see you at the start of Classic Christmas at Commons Park on Friday at 5:30 p.m. for the annual tree lighting. The tree will be lit and children can tell Santa what they want for Christmas. It will be a fun quick event for the whole family. Don’t miss it!

I would also like to take a moment to thank the community for welcoming me in the position as editor here at the Leader. I am so grateful to be your editor, to tell your stories and report on your news Lake Mills. Thank you!

May God bless you and your family this holiday season. From all of us here at the Leader, happy holidays!
