Two Lake Mills High School FFA members have received project grants through the 2018 Titan Tire Antique Tractor Restoration Program for FFA members. Lake Mills FFA members Trevor Messmer and Cody Ziebell, both juniors in high school, each applied for and received free tires for their 2018 FFA Agricultural Mechanics Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Projects.
Both students started their tractor restoration projects in February of 2018 and finished them in October of 2018. Trevor Messmer restored a 1952 Massey-Harris 55 Diesel. Cody Ziebell restored a 1941 Allis-Chalmers Model C. The Lake Mills FFA Advisor is Luke Wiedenfeld. Lake Mills FFA Alumni Member Dave Messmer served as a mentor to each of the students on their restoration projects. Other donors and contributors to their FFA tractor restoration projects included: Tractor Supply Company-Watertown, Strip-It (Watertown), Don Squire of Stoughton, Steve Felio of Stoughton, and Dennis Hilgendorf of Controlled Surface Finishing, Inc. of Stoughton.
Both students recently presented their tractor restoration projects at the Lake Mills FFA Corn Test Plot Field Day on Oct. 19. Both students are also planning to display their tractors at the 2019 Wisconsin State FFA Convention, held in Madison, June 10-14, as well as the 2019 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, which will be held in Jefferson County, from July 23-25, 2019.
