Stop pipeline expansion

I was pleased to learn that Minnesota is questioning Enbridge Energy’s need to replace its Line 3 oil pipeline. Not only should we shut down the existing line, but the State of Wisconsin should impose a moratorium on all new pipeline expansion.

The current price of oil is currently too low to make it profitable for Enbridge to extract and transport their products to the Gulf for export. It matters little if we believe in climate change. As Harvey and Irma have clearly demonstrated, the costs of cleanup and restoration after superstorms place enormous strain on the resources of both State and Federal governments. Most importantly, the unimaginable consequences of drought, wildfires, flooding, crop failures and unavoidable severe weather events is frightening. What a horrific heritage to leave our descendants. Harvey and Irma are harbingers of a world we cannot afford, or allow our grandchildren to inherit.

It is far better too leave tar sands oil in the ground where it belongs than suffer the dire consequences. As the same time we can reduce our dependency on dirty fossil fuels. We must demand a safer, healthier, and cleaner environment for ourselves and our grandchildren.
