A child sexual assault case is heading to trial after the accused entered a not guilty plea last Thursday in Columbia County Court.
At his Oct. 29 preliminary hearing, George Zeimet, 65, city of Lodi, plead not guilty to two felony counts of repeated sexual assault of a child which carry a sentence of up to 120 years in prison.
Zeimet was charged in June after two victims came forward in April to report the alleged sexual abuse that occurred in the summer of 2011. The victims were six and seven years old at the time of the alleged assaults.
In the criminal complaint Zeimet admitted to the sexual assaults during an interview with the Lodi Police Department. Zeimet said the incidents occurred in the basement of his home on Chestnut Street in the city of Lodi.
Zeimet is currently being held in Columbia County Jail and has been there since a $3,000 cash bond was set following his initial hearing in June. In September, a motion to dismiss the case was not granted. A date for the jury trial has not yet been set.
