Michael Roherty has been named the new Milton High School cross country head coach.

Roherty graduated Milton High School in 2009 and was the captain of the cross county team his junior and senior year. He helped guide the Red Hawks to a state appearance in 2008.

“I’m thrilled that I have the opportunity to become the next head coach,” Roherty said

Roherty graduated from UW-Whitewater, where he started running marathons, including the Boston Marathon.

Roherty has been an assistant coach for the Red Hawks’ cross county team the past three seasons.

“I have relationships with almost all the athletes on the team. I believe I can only build on that and help these runners become more confident,” Roherty said.

Roherty said he believes he has inherited a group of good young runners who are excited to start competing.

“What I would like us to do is to start believing in ourselves as a program,” Roherty said.

He said he hopes he can help improve his athletes’ abilities, as well as help his runners grow as people.
