Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Milton

Lew Alcindor received his first taste of the NBA on the Milton College campus during the summer of 1969. New York City born and fresh off the campus of UCLA, Alcindor came to Milton as one of the most celebrated NBA draft picks in league history when he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the spring of 1969. The Bucks held the team’s preseason camps at Milton College in 1968 and 1969. Alcindor changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1971 and played with the Bucks through the 1975 season when he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Alcindor is pictured here as he walks past the Campus Center just south of High Street.
