A new swim school is making its way to Cottage Grove.
Dolphin Swim Academy, a full-service learn to swim program, will make its local debut in spring 2021.
Owner and operator Brittany Ballweg has been teaching and coaching aquatics for more than ten years, and decided to open her own academy in 2017.
Currently, Dolphin Swim Academy leases out of an indoor pool space at an assisted and senior living community in Madison. Ballweg said the choice to move and set up shop in Cottage Grove felt natural.
“With current COVID-19 concerns, it is not safe for us to be bringing in outside visitors to the residents and staff that live and work there,” Ballweg said on the academy’s prior location. “With COVID-19 still being a consideration, we knew we had to find a location that was near our current space in order to be close for our families, but also allow for future growth.”
When asked what unique amenities Dolphin Swim Academy will bring to the Cottage Grove community, Ballweg said the swim school runs more like a family than a business.
“We have a loving team that is just as devoted to our swimmers as they are to their own families,” she said. “Our purpose is to help make a world without drowning. We can’t wait to get into the pool to help promote water safety and provide quality swim lessons.”
Although the new development has no official opening date beyond the tentative spring of 2021, Ballweg held a private groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 10.
According to lead architect Joseph Gallagher, the swim academy received approval for a conditional use permit, as well as site plan approval from the Cottage Grove plan commission, on Sept. 15.
Dolphin Swim Academy will be located in Commerce Park, on the corner of Limestone Pass and Landmark Drive.
