Barnes visits Sun Prairie High Schools for Black History Month
Mandela Barnes visited Sun Prairie East and West High Schools on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to wrap up Black History Month. Barnes spoke to students about his journey from growing up in Milwaukee to becoming the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin. He noted that Barack Obama's presidential run in 2004 inspired him to get involved in politics and have a voice as an African American man.
In addition, Black Student Union members at East gave Barnes a sneak peak of their Friday, March 3 performance. They sung "Lift Every Voice and Sing" as well as performed dances and spoken word poetry.
