Victim Impact Programming group

Students from UW-Platteville recently conducted a victim impact program at the Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution.

UW-Platteville students, including Octavia Bogan of Sun Prairie, recently helped facilitate three sessions of victim impact programming for 50 inmates at Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution. The goal of the program is to help inmantes take accountability for the people and communities who have been affected by their crimes, understand the hurdles victims face following a crime an participate in opportunities for repairing harm.

Students who participated in the program are enrolled in Dr. Amy Nemmetz’s victimology and restorative justice class. Prior to the sessions, students toured the inmate housing unit, visiting area, chapel, restrictive housing, recreation are, on-site health services and attended a panel where inmates talked openly about their pasts, what led them to prison and their lives in prison.
