In recognition of National Poppy Day, Friday, May 24, members of the Waterloo American Legion Auxiliary will be distributing poppies at local businesses that have allowed the organization the use of their property.
The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars.
The poppy is also the official flower of the American Legion Family.
It reminds us of the sacrifices made by veterans while protecting freedom.
The poppies are handmade by veterans for veterans.
All donations received will be used by the auxiliary for programs that support veterans, the military community and their families.
