Staying ALERRT

Carrie Henning Cotter, a retired police officer, RN, paramedic and firefighter, leads a class on Civilian Response to Active Shooter events, or CRASE at the Waunakee Village Center Aug. 31. Cotter will offer the class again Sept. 10 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. It is designed with the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004 to increase the chance of survival in an active shooter event. Cotter will also lead a self defense class titled Escaping Violent Encounters for Women from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 14. The classes are free to the community.
